EPLO’s participation in the 2019 edition of the European Development Days

Organised by the European Commission (EC), the European Development Days (EDDs) is an annual two-day gathering of representatives of the international development community.

The focus of the 2019 year’s edition was ‘Addressing inequalities: building a world which leaves no one behind’. In this context, the European External Action Service (EEAS) asked EPLO to co-organise a high-level panel entitled ‘Power, Resources and Participation: Addressing inequalities for sustainable peace’.

The panel, which was moderated by EPLO Executive Director, Sonya Reines-Djivanides, brought together the Deputy Secretary-General of the EEAS, Christian Leffler; the Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ulrika Modéer; the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa, Glen Mashinini; the Executive Director of Oxfam Mexico, Ricardo Fuentes-Nieva, and the Young European of the Year, Yasmine Ouirhrane.

EPLO also worked with the Voluntary Organisations in Cooperation in Emergencies (VOICE) network to co-organise a lab debate entitled ‘Applying a nexus approach to transcend the humanitarian-development divide’.

In addition to the two events which EPLO co-organised, the following EPLO member organisations were also involved in various other EDDs events: Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict, International Alert, Interpeace, Oxfam International, Pax Christi International, Search for Common Ground and World Vision International.
