The overall objective of this meeting is to enable civil society organisations (CSOs) to discuss the common themes in the high-level reviews of UN Peace Operations, the UN Peacebuilding Architecture, and the implementation of UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, and to provide their input as to the role of the EU and its Member States in the implementation phase.
The meeting will consist of two sessions, in which initial presentations from speakers will be followed by an open discussion. It will bring together approximately 30 EU policy-makers, UN officials and representatives from civil society peacebuilding organisations. All participants will be encouraged to engage.
The outcome of this meeting will be a set of civil society recommendations to be fed into the broader consultative process encouraged by the Office of the President of the UN General Assembly (OPGA) in preparation of the High-Level Thematic Debate of the UN General Assembly on ‘Strengthening the UN’s Role in Peace and Security’, which will take place on 10-11 May 2016, in New York.
