EPLO BROWN BAG LUNCH EVENT – The 5th AU-EU Summit: an opportunity to reset African Union-European Union relations?

7th November 2017 @ 13:00 - 14:00 CET

Relations between the African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) reached a nadir in 2016 following serious disagreements over European payments to AU peacekeepers in Somalia. The fifth AU-EU summit, which will take place on 29-30 November in Abidjan, presents a chance to reinvigorate the partnership if both sides can deal openly with disagreements, and address deep-seated mutual frustration.

In the run-up to the AU-EU summit, EPLO invites you to a Brown Bag Lunch discussion with Elissa Jobson, International Crisis Group’s Advisor for African Union Relations. Elissa will present Crisis Group’s new report entitled ‘Time to Reset African Union-European Union Relations’, which provides a detailed analysis of the relationship between the AU and the EU, identifying and assessing key points of divergence, elucidating concerns and complaints, and suggesting ways to strengthen future relations.

The presentation will be followed by an informal discussion among participants.

Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.

Please note that seats are limited and registration is mandatory. Please RSVP to Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
