In the light of the peace and reconciliation process, in November 2016, Search for Common Ground (SfCG) conducted a conflict assessment in North Okkalapa, Yangon; and Lashio, Shan State, in Myanmar. This study, entitled ‘Urbanization & Conflict in Myanmar’, yielded fascinating insights into conflict dynamics at the national level in Myanmar, as well as the unique conflict drivers affecting the country’s growing urban areas.
In this EPLO Brown Bag Lunch discussion, SfCG’s Regional Programme Manager for Asia, Tereza Grünvaldová, will discuss the findings of this assessment on the background of the peace process in Myanmar. She will focus on the current conflicts in the ethnic states and possible scenarios for the peace process, and highlight the links between local and national conflict dynamics, and SfCG’s efforts to address some of them. As efforts contributing to the peace and reconciliation process are largely supported by the European Commission, the implications of the EU’s involvement in the process will also be discussed.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.
Please note that seats are limited and registration is mandatory. Please RSVP to Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
