EPLO Brown Bag Lunch Event – EU National Action Plans for Women, Peace and Security – Emphasizing Civil Society Engagement and Regional Collaboration?

7th September 2021 @ 13:00 - 14:00 CEST

Of the 27 EU Member States, 24 currently have National Action Plans (NAPs) for implementing their commitments as part of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS).

Given that each country context in relation to the WPS agenda varies, and that countries may be on their first or fourth ‘generations’ of NAPs, what can be said about the EU region as a whole? What patterns, if any, are emerging in the conceptualisation and implementation of these plans? Noting that UNSCR 1325, a ‘transformative’ resolution, was initiated by civil society, do EU NAPs reflect this participatory approach? Are EU NAPs effectively operating at multiple tracks and ‘across borders’ – emphasizing civil society engagement and regional collaboration?

Amy Herr will explore these questions and share her early Ph.D. analysis on current EU NAPs. Her presentation will be followed by an informal discussion among participants.

Amy Herr is a Ph.D. researcher at the University of Bradford, based in Berlin. She is examining how EU NAPs on WPS are being formulated and implemented, with a particular focus on civil society participation and collaboration across borders.

Please note that registration is mandatory. RSVP to Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
