Relations between the African Union (AU) and European Union (EU) are at a turning point in their history. The EU is pushing for a renewed partnership that entails an enhanced responsibility from its African partners, who in turn stress the need not to base the relationship on migration-related issues. The fifth AU-EU Summit, which took place on 29-30 November 2017 in Abidjan, presented a chance to reinvigorate the AU-EU Partnership, but also highlighted a number of divergences in the relations between the two sides.
In the aftermath of the AU-EU Summit, EPLO invites you to a Brown Bag Lunch discussion with Elissa Jobson, International Crisis Group’s Advisor for African Union Relations. Elissa will discuss the outcome of the Summit and developments in AU-EU relations, including those related to the upcoming negotiations on the succession to the Partnership Agreement between the EU and the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (Cotonou Agreement). She will also discuss the results of the recent AU Summit, ahead of which Crisis Group laid down the ‘Seven Priorities for the African Union in 2018’, and the progress of the AU’s institutional and financial reform processes.
The presentation will be followed by an informal discussion among participants.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.
Please note that seats are limited and registration is mandatory. Please RSVP to Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
