In this EPLO Brown Bag lunch discussion, Dr Sara McDowell and Dr Máire Braniff from Ulster University will briefly present their work under the ‘Connecting Commemorative Communities’ project, which is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK) and explores non-violent and transformative ways of dealing with and commemorating the past in Northern Ireland. They will also talk about how this topic of connecting community, security, policy and government has been discussed in other EU Member States and third countries such as Argentina and South Africa. The presentation will be followed by a discussion with participants.
Dr Sara McDowell is a lecturer in Human Geography at Ulster University. Her current research project is aimed at connecting communities involved in memory work in post-conflict Northern Ireland and sharing good practice.
As a lecturer in Sociology at Ulster University, Dr Máire Braniff delivers a number of undergraduate, professional and personal development programmes. She has published widely on peacebuilding, conflict, political life and memory in contested societies.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.
