EPLO Member Organisation Event – Demonstrating the Impact of Locally-led Peacebuilding

18th July 2019 @ 16:00 - 16:45 CEST

Join DME for Peace next Thursday, July 18th at 10am EDT, as Phil Vernon, Report Writer, and Scarlett Kassimatis, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Adviser at Peace Direct, join the M&E Thursday Talks to lead a discussion on Demonstrating the Impact of Locally-led Peacebuilding.

Peacebuilding is now widely accepted as an indispensable dimension of responses in conflict-affected and fragile contexts. International policies also consistently agree that local leadership is essential to successful peacebuilding, but international support for locally-led peacebuilding lags behind this rhetoric. This is partly because of the lack of available data demonstrating the impact of locally-led peacebuilding. To help fill this gap, Peace Direct, in collaboration with the Alliance for Peacebuilding, conducted research in the first half of 2019, seeking evidence of local peacebuilding impact.

Phil Vernon and Scarlett Kassimatis will explain how they went about this research and explore the results. They will also highlight the need for both a major increase in the volume and quality support for local peacebuilding, and the areas where more research is needed. Participants are encouraged to share how their own experiences with locally-led peacebuilding!
