In peacebuilding and conflict transformation processes, organisations working in and on conflict suffer from ‘shrinking spaces’ by governmental, business, or far-right activities, and develop maladaptive coping practices such as overplanning, reactivity, siege mentality or utopian visions.
How should donors react to this? Based on his article entitled ‘Creating Clarity in Conflict?’, Torge Kuebler will discuss ways in which donors can improve the impact of peacebuilding by investing in Organisational Development (OD) with Carole Frampton-de Tscharner, Organisational Development Lead at PeaceNexus Foundation. Specifically, they will review different approaches to organisational capacity building and argue for a shift in donor strategies towards recognising the specific needs of conflict organisations, as a way to realise the full potential of locally-led peacebuilding endeavours.
Torge Kuebler is an independent process consultant with a passion for strengthening peacebuilding organisations. He has been working for the past 20 years for and with organisations such as GIZ Palestine, the EU Peacebuilding Initiative in Jerusalem, and Civil Peace Service organisations. Torge holds an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Hamburg.
Carole Frampton-de Tscharner facilitates peer support and methodology development for PeaceNexus’ OD work across its different focus regions, and directly manages its international OD projects. Her career started at the Centre for Conflict Resolution in South Africa and included the role of Director of Institutional Learning for Search for Common Ground and the position of Director of Operations for the intergovernmental facility Justice Rapid Response.
