EPLO Brown Bag Lunch Event – How to prevent and mitigate hate and misinformation online?

27th October 2021 @ 13:00 - 14:00 CEST

Online hate and misinformation pose serious threats to human rights, freedom of expression and social cohesion. Growing xenophobia, racism, intolerance, and spreading of content that stigmatises and dehumanises refugees, women, and other vulnerable groups contribute to hate crimes as well as acts of violence and conflicts.

I Am Here International aims to create an internet without hate and misinformation to ensure and maintain democratic and inclusive societies by preventing and mitigating the effects of hate speech, and countering the spread of disinformation. Their interventions give voice to the ‘silent majority’ to make sure those with something to say are not intimidated into self-censorship and silence.

Mina Dennert is a Swedish writer, journalist, and founder and Secretary General of I Am Here International. In this virtual Brown Bag Lunch, she will discuss how hate speech and misinformation in social media can be addressed and will explore ideas on what can be done at the EU level.

Please note that registration is mandatory. RSVP to Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
