EPLO Member Organisation – A 21st Century Approach to Peace

24th May 2022 @ 09:00 - 10:00 CEST

The economic drivers of conflict, growing polarisation, proxy and hybrid warfare, and the effects of climate change are exacerbating regional and local tensions and stoking conflict dynamics. Security challenges affect most regions. The war in Ukraine is further complicating an already complex global landscape. There are 56 active conflicts ongoing. Discontent, unpredictability, and insecurity are on a seemingly inexorable rise.

Building peace in the 21st century requires a deep and comprehensive shift in approach among all participants in peacemaking processes: governments, local community and civil society groups, national elites, security actors, private sector actors, international agencies and donor countries.

About the High-Level Session

Designed to be an interactive, fast-paced dialogue, the session will create space for exchange and reflection amongst senior policymakers to explore the current conflict and peace landscape. During the session, members of the International Commission on Inclusive Peace will share key findings from the global participatory process of the Principles for Peace. The session will be an opportunity to engage with and shape the emerging Peacemaker’s Covenant that lays out the foundations and philosophy behind new principles for peace.

The session will also be livestreamed.
