EPLO Member Organisation Event – How to Lead a Successful Peace Process: Grassroots Insights from Afghanistan, Syria, and Sierra Leone

25th May 2021 @ 17:00 - 18:00 CEST

Recent delays in the Afghan peace talks bring to light a hard question: How do you manage a successful peace process—one that leads to lasting change? For nearly 40 years, Search for Common Ground has worked on some of the world’s most challenging conflicts, from Myanmar to Yemen. We have seen how peace processes fail when they center on just a few leaders and exclude groups such as women, youth, ethnic minorities, and traditional leaders who experience violence as a daily reality.

Join us for a discussion among frontline peacebuilders who will share insights from their engagement with the diverse communities in Afghanistan, Syria, and Sierra Leone who wish to have a stake in defining peace in their country. You’ll have a chance to hear more from the local perspectives that are often overlooked in high-level negotiations.
If you’re interested in reading more, check out the recent report from Search for Common Ground and Principles for Peace—Principles for Peace: Local Insights on Building Lasting Peace—which highlights the perspectives of communities who are traditionally left out of peace processes from Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, Syria, and Yemen.
