EPLO Member Organisation Event – Negotiating with Violent Criminal Groups: Lessons and Guidelines from Global Practice

April 19 @ 17:00 - 17:45 CEST

On behalf of the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFIT), it is our pleasure to invite you to attend a special 45-minute launch panel regarding our newest publication: Negotiating with Violent Criminal Groups: Lessons and Guidelines from Global Practice

Date: Monday April 19 from 17:00 to 17:45 (CEST)

The panel will include, among others, the publication’s co-authors Mark Freeman (IFIT) and Dr. Vanda Felbab-Brown (Brookings). They will discuss 1) why negotiations with violent crime groups – such as mafias, cartels, gangs and pirates – occur more often than imagined; 2) what range of endgames are suitable for such negotiations, considering that violent crime groups are understood to have motivations that are primarily pecuniary rather than political; and 3) which concepts and practices from the established field of peace mediation – and associated areas such as transitional justice – are transferable to negotiations with violent crime groups.
