EPLO Member Organisation Event – Violence, Forced Migration and Peacebuilding

15th February 2022 - 17th February 2022

From 15th– 17th February 2022, Peace Direct, Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security (WCAPS), and Search for Common Ground, will hold a consultation on “Violence, Forced Migration and Peacebuilding”.

Global migration is a hot topic, yet those most people directly impacted by factors motivating displacement are often excluded from mainstream conversations and policy discussions. Peace Direct, WCAPS and SFCG invite peacebuilders and anyone with lived experience of displacement or a commitment to immigration justice to join the conversation.

It is these voices, perspectives, and experiences which should be at the forefront of solutions.

Why is this conversation important?

Peacebuilding plays an essential role in every stage of population movements. However, it is rarely considered in the context of global migration. We need a radical re-thinking in how the peacebuilding community understands its relationship to forced migration. The discussion will tap into the link between peacebuilding and migration, and how to strengthen it.

You are invited to be a part of this consultation to share your perspectives, exchange ideas, and build community between the peacebuilding and migration arenas.

What will be discussed?

The organisers want this consultation to be a meaningful dialogue led by local actors. Over the three days, the key questions will be:

  • How can the peacebuilding sector help to minimize forced migration?
  • Are economic and security reasons for migration truly separate? How does violent conflict interact with this binary?
  • When migrants and displaced people enter new communities, what challenges arise and how do local peacebuilders rise to these challenges?
  • How do climate disasters impact fragile community relations in ways that contribute to conflict and displacement? What is the role of peacebuilding in mediating these conflicts?
  • How can efforts of peacebuilders in destination countries be better coordinated and consulted by those peacebuilders in countries of origin of while developing sustainable solutions to violent conflict?

How will it work?

This conversation will take place on Peace Direct’s Platform4Dialogue discussion platform between 15th – 17th February 2022.

While the consultation will be available in English, participants who speak Spanish French, and Arabic will be able to use the automatic translation function.

Deadline to register: Friday 11th February
