On Tuesday 8 March, International Alert is hosting a special International Women’s Day webinar.

In 2020 International Alert’s stock-taking exercise of 20 years of the Women Peace and Security Agenda highlighted the barriers to peacebuilding presented by conservative patriarchal gender norms and masculinities. Over the past two years it has used these findings to implement innovative new programmes in four fragile and conflict contexts.

What International Alert has learned will be crucial to peacebuilders progressing the Women, Peace and Security agenda. It will also support humanitarians, policy makers, funding bodies, journalists, academics and development practitioners who are working to address gender equality in conflict settings.

This expert panel will explore:

• Sexual and gender-based violence within different faith communities across Kyrgyzstan
• The boundaries of patriarchal norms at clan-level in the Bangsamoro in The Philippines
• Women‘s political participation at sub-national governance level in Bauchi State, Nigeria
• Gender-based violence in Nepal.
