This background paper maps civil society organisations working on peacebuilding in the Netherlands and examines how they engage with national authorities and European Union institutions. It was prepared in advance of a Civil Society Dialogue Network roundtable bringing together NGOs active in peacebuilding. The document situates Dutch civil society within the broader peace and justice ecosystem of The Hague, a city hosting many international institutions and organisations working on international law and conflict resolution.
The paper presents a selection of organisations and networks involved in peacebuilding and describes the main areas in which they operate. These include emergency relief, initiatives connecting humanitarian action, development and peacebuilding, inclusive peace processes, capacity-building programmes, and work on justice and reconciliation. It also covers organisations involved in research, education and knowledge exchange.
In addition, the paper explores how Dutch civil society organisations collaborate with the European Union, including through funding, policy engagement and the sharing of expertise related to peacebuilding and conflict prevention.
