On 11 April 2024, EPLO organised a Civil Society Dialogue Network (CSDN) NGO-Roundtable meeting in Berlin. The meeting gathered representatives of German-based peacebuilding organisations to exchange views on advocacy and funding issues related to the European Union’s support to conflict prevention and peacebuilding. It was hosted by the Berghof Foundation and opened with contributions from its Executive Director and from a member of EPLO’s Steering Committee. The discussions included presentations on EU peacebuilding actors, policy frameworks and the EU funding architecture for external action.
Participants discussed developments affecting German and European approaches to peacebuilding, including debates around security policy, stabilisation approaches and cooperation with local partners. Exchanges also addressed concerns about the direction of European external action and its implications for conflict prevention efforts.
The meeting further examined funding challenges for peacebuilding, including possible changes to EU external action instruments and funding structures. Participants reflected on advocacy priorities, coordination between civil society and policy-makers, and possible entry points for engagement with EU institutions and national authorities.
