On Wednesday evenings, starting on Wednesday 21 February 2018, the Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA) is organising a reading group to explore race and privilege using the book ‘Waking Up White and finding myself in the story of race’ by Debbie Irving.

Would you like to explore issues of race and privilege and what they mean to you?

Perhaps you followed the #BrusselsSoWhite discussion after the Politico articles in December, and would like a safe environment to explore these issues further.

Please join us as we read through Waking Up White, a book that gently challenges readers to examine the way that we understand race.

• The book opens readers to a world of unspoken assumptions and unacknowledged privilege that we may enjoy without realising it.
• The book will walk us through our own socialisation and helps us to see what we can’t see: that having good intentions and that abstaining from overtly racist words and actions is not enough if we want to live in a society where everyone is equally valued.
