CSDP missions and operations are some of the most visible crisis management tools of the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). In recent years, the EU and its member states have taken concrete steps to ensure gender and human rights advisers are deployed to all EU missions and operations. Their specific roles and responsibilities vary from mission to mission however their goal is the same: to ensure that gender and human rights are integrated consistently across all missions and operations and that the EU leads by example in these areas.
Gender and human rights advisers therefore find themselves at the forefront of the EU’s efforts to translate policies into daily practice. Jeff Hoppenbrouwers and Hubert van Eck Koster from EUPOL COPPS (Palestine) and Johan Axander from EUMM Georgia will share their practical experiences and present concrete examples of how gender and human rights considerations can be operationalised in CSDP missions and how this can contribute to their effectiveness.
Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.
Please note that places are limited and registration is mandatory. Please contact Susanne Wander by Friday 6 May if you would like to participate.
