Title | National Dialogue and Peace Mediation |
Organiser | swisspeace and Berghof Foundation |
Date | 13-17 May 2024 |
Location | online |
Short description | Today’s peace processes are highly complex. Peace mediation and national dialogues are widely recognized as two relevant avenues for the peaceful settlement of conflicts. Peace mediation processes are assisted negotiation processes, often with limited participation and a focus on questions of power-sharing. National dialogues, in contrast, aim to provide a space to discuss a broader range of issues relevant to the wider society, expand participation beyond political and military elites and (re)build relations among different actors. Nevertheless, the two concepts are closely interlinked as national dialogues can be set up before, during or after peace mediation processes. This course is offered in collaboration with the Berghof Foundation. |

Title | Trauma-Informed Peacebuilding |
Organiser | forumZFD |
Date | 15 May – 5 June 2024 |
Location | online |
Short description | This course is intended to support international and domestic peacebuilders who seek to transform conflict and build lasting peace. The training will support peacebuilders in international or domestic peace projects, as well as people working in active conflict zones, to more deeply explore and understand individual, communal, and historical harms – such as ethnic violence, racism, gender-based violence, and colonialism – at the root of communal division. By cultivating participants’ sensitivity to harm and incorporating trauma-healing approaches in their relationships and work, they are better equipped to transform interpersonal and intergroup relationships. |

Title | Gender in Peace and Conflict |
Organiser | forumZFD |
Date | 16 May – 27 June 2024 |
Location | online |
Short description | The course offers practical and analytical tools to how gender-sensitivity can be integrated into the field of development, conflict and peace. It aims to give a thorough understanding of the crucial role of gender and intersectionality in understanding conflict and violence, but also peacebuilding and human rights. Therefore, gender-sensitive conflict analysis, project planning, evaluation and monitoring as well as violence response mechanisms are central parts of the course by working on real live case studies from the participants. Through interactive methods the course explores critically how power hierarchies, colonial continuities and our own (gendered) identities and positionalities as peacebuilders matters in working with communities in peacebuilding and development settings. Furthermore, international policy and legal instruments supporting gender equality, such as the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and newly emerging frameworks of feminist foreign policy are introduced and discussed. |

Title | Introduction to Environmental Peacebuilding |
Organiser | forumZFD |
Date | 3-13 June 2024 |
Location | online |
Short description | The course will be a learning ecosystem for participants to acquire basic knowledge in the field of environmental peacebuilding. We will explore essential concepts around the environment and climate and the interconnections with peace, conflict, and violence. Participants will become multipliers of tools and gained competencies, actively engaging in networks of environmental peacebuilders. The training will open conversations on topics such as climate refugees, the fading of natural resources (water, energy…), how the climate crisis is affecting your community nowadays or the inclusion of the north-south hemispheres’ climate impacts and conflicts. Equipping peacebuilders with the competencies to recognise the environmental risks of conflict is crucial in conflict prevention, management and transformation. Peacebuilding cannot be blind to the consequences of the climate crisis, environmental consequences of war or the environment in peace processes. |
