The Community of Sant’Egidio is co-organising a conference entitled ‘Interreligious dialogue as an enhancing tool for conflict resolution and reconciliation in the European integration process’ on Tuesday 26 January (09.30-12.30) in Brussels.

The aim of the conference is to shed light on the fruits and challenges of 30 years of interreligious dialogue, born in the aftermath of the World Day for Prayer in 1986. On this occasion, a hundred of religious leaders came together at the invitation of Pope John Paul II in Assisi, in Italy. Every year since then, the Community of Sant’Egidio has organized an International Peace Meeting in the ‘Spirit of Assisi’, gathering leaders of world religions. The latest meeting took place in Tirana, Albania in September 2015 1the next meeting will take place from 18 till 20 september 2016.

The 1st panel will focus on the latest Meeting in Albania. What was the impact on this small candidate EU Member country, which has a majority of muslim population? How can Albania be a succesful example of coexistence between religions and cultures?

The speakers of the second panel will widen the scope and discuss the results of thirty years ‘Spirit of Assisi’ and the challenges for interfaith dialogue in our times.
