Oxfam International, International Alert and the Firoz Lalji Centre for Africa are co-organising a panel discussion to hear findings from Oxfam’s and International Alert’s new report ‘Partnerships in Conflict’ and fresh insights on the realities and dilemmas faced by civil society organisations (CSOs) in situations of violent conflicts and the role the international community can play.
Local CSOs are at the forefront in responding to the needs of the millions of civilians caught up in violent conflict. Where international actors struggle most, partnerships with local CSOs, who better understand the context and complex conflict dynamics, allow for life-saving resources to reach the people who need them most in the most appropriate manner.
But how should international actors work in these contexts? And as commitments to localization grow international funding flows to CSOs are set to increase, but what are the challenges CSOs face, and are there opportunities to support them better? This event will launch Oxfam’s and International Alert’s new report ‘Partnerships in Conflict’, which presents research on the impact of violent conflict on civil society organizations (CSOs) and the implications for international actors who partner with them. The research took place in Myanmar, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
