EPLO Member Organisation Event – Twenty Years of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda

11th May 2020 @ 15:15 - 16:30 CEST

It has been 20 years since the landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security came about, after tireless efforts from the women’s movement. The historic resolution acknowledged the disproportionate and unique impact of armed conflict on women and girls. The resolution also recognised the critical role that women can and already do play in peacebuilding efforts.

Since then, the Women, Peace and Security agenda has significantly altered the conversation on peace and security. Protection from sexual violence, women’s participation, female peacekeepers and gender parity are now issues seen as integral to achieving peace. These are important results and key to building sustainable peace.

We are now at a critical moment for the agenda. Along with the successes, there is much still to be done and the COVID-19 pandemic promises uncertainty and unstable times ahead.

The next Stockholm Peace Forum will take place online from 11 to 20 May 2020. International Alert and The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation organised a high-level panel on Women, Peace and Security on 11 May 2020.
