Invitation Report Launch: Girls in Crisis in the Sahel

26th June 2020 @ 10:00 - 11:30 CEST

The crisis affecting the Sahel is one of the most severe humanitarian emergencies in the world. The number of internally displaced persons in Burkina Faso has risen ten-fold in 2019 alone, while another 70,000 were displaced in Mali in 2019 with the country’s displaced population now reaching over 200,000 (see Press Release UNHCR, 2020). Civilians are facing repeated violent attacks by armed groups which have had a major impact on the delivery of basic services to communities, including education, health, water and shelter.

Against this backdrop, Plan International EU Office is presenting the new report “Girls in Crisis in the Sahel Region”, based on the research carried out in collaboration with the University College London (UCL) and UNFPA. Herewith Plan International EU Office would like to invite you to join us for a discussion on the main findings of the research and for you to share your reflections and questions. This research shows the inter-connected risks faced by girls in times of emergency, with violence running like a thread through their experiences and undermining their human rights and security. The research seeks to amplify the voices of girls and their perceptions of life under the crisis.

To participate please register here by Tuesday 23rd June 2020 COB.
