EPLO Brown Bag Lunch Event – Current political and security developments in Sudan: Recommendations from civil society leaders

22nd March 2019 @ 12:00 - 13:30 CET

Since December 2018, tens of thousands of people have taken part in protests across Sudan. The protests, initially related to the rising prices of basic commodities, quickly shifted to demanding the resignation of President Bashir, and eventually led him to delegate his powers as ruling party head and to appoint a new Vice-President. Protesters have been violently dispersed by security forces, and the excessive use of force has been widely condemned by the international community.

Saferworld is trying to ensure that local voices are heard by EU policy-makers and international NGOs, by bringing to Brussels Sudanese civil society leaders representing different groups which can contribute to inclusive, coordinated and peaceful change in Sudan. In this Brown Bag Lunch discussion, they will provide an update on the latest situation in Sudan, and their recommendations on how international actors can support conflict transformation in the country.

The presentation will be followed by an informal discussion with participants.

Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch and EPLO will provide tea and coffee.

Please note that seats are limited and registration is mandatory. Please contact Lorenzo Conti if you would like to participate.
