While the Netherlands and the European Union support many activities relating to youth and conflict, there is no specific strategy for youth within Dutch foreign policy and EU external action. On 22 September 2016, the Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid (Cordaid) and the United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY)* will bring young peace activists and policymakers to the same table to discuss how decision makers can support young people in building peace and preventing violence, from their involvement at grassroot level activities to decision-making processes on youth, peace and security issues.

This discussion has become increasingly relevant with the adoption of the UN security council resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security in December 2015, which is the first of its kind to recognise the positive role young people play in building sustainable peace and preventing violent conflict. The expert meeting will explore how resolution 2250 can inform European peacebuilding policy and practice. The meeting will be held as part of the Young Peacebuilders Forum 2016.
