ESSEC IRENÉ and Build Up are organising two events on ‘EU capabilities in conflict prevention & peacebuilding’ on 23 June in Brussels. These events will take place at the Quaker House in Brussels, from 14:00 to 19:30, and will be followed by a cocktail. Both events are taking place in the framework of the Whole of Society Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding (WOSCAP) project, which is undertaking an assessment of EU capabilities for civilian peacebuilding.

The first event is entitled ‘Civil Society, Private Sector, Economic Diplomacy: Questioning the Coherence of EU External Action in Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding’. This event is also part of the SIRENE seminars. ESSEC IRENÉ has organised since 2007 an interdisciplinary research seminar on negotiation (SIRENE). Research is a key issue for negotiation insofar as it contributes to the generation of original concepts, the academic recognition of this multidisciplinary field and, through PhD students, the emergence of a new generation of researchers. To achieve these objectives, the exchange between researchers as well as between researchers, trainers and practitioners, offers a stimulating path. Negotiation needs places and moments in which ideas cross-fertilize, and where best practices are shared. SIRENE is open for those who want to contribute to collective reflection on negotiation, its stakes and its challenges.

The second event is a round table on the use of ICTs for EU conflict prevention and Peacebuilding. This event is also part of the BUILD PEACE SALON series. Build Peace is a community that brings together practitioners, activists and technologists from around the world to share experience and ideas on using technology for peacebuilding and conflict transformation. The event is organized by BUILD UP, which is dedicated to supporting the emergence of alternative infrastructures for civic engagement and peacebuilding.
