EPLO Member Organisation Event – Understanding Online Polarisation in Kenya: A Digital Peacebuilding Perspective

16th July 2020 @ 16:00 - 17:00 CEST

Join DME for Peace on Thursday, July 16th at 4 pm EDT, as Fredrick Ogenga, Founding Director of the Center for Media, Democracy, Peace & Security, joins the M&E Thursday Talks to lead a discussion on “Understanding Online Polarization in Kenya: A Digital Peacebuilding Perspective.

In this discussion, we will explore the importance of understanding local ecological factors in order to customize digital peacebuilding goals. Fredrick will also examine the roles and codes of conduct that reinforce a successful digital strategy, using his project on online polarization in Kenya as an example.

Fredrick will dive deeper into the project, examining the importance of demographics – particularly age, gender, and ethnicity – in the context of Kenya’s political dynamics, and how these factors have impacted individualized and collective strategic interventions. Through strengthening digital peacebuilding strategies, Fredrick will explain how this project plans to move forward, using social media on a micro and macro level, to further strengthen interventions and address growing, online polarization in Kenya.
